1. “The Flaming Star is one of the essential symbols of the fellowcraft in Freemasonry. Its arms represent the 5 directions of research of the degree and comprehend the number that is present for those who aspire to be received as Master Masons.
The Flaming Star is the Pole Star of the Fellowcraft as it shows them that they are invited to several journeys and become by themselves the source of Light and understanding. In the Temple it is hanged in the East, over the Worshipful Master table. Its arms represents a constant progression, but none points to the floor or backwards.”

  3. In the past couple months I have taken on many new responsibilities within my order. The most recent is my promotion from publisher/assistant on the Federation Newsletter to Editor in Chief. Under this new role, I have quite a great deal of responsibility toward the membership. We want to focus strongly on masonic growth and outreach. In conjunction with this goal, i have been helping with the new American Federation website (which hasn’t gone live) and the regional or lodge websites.

I personally was made responsible for making and maintaining the regional website for the 2 lodges in the Los Angeles Area. I have finally finished it and gotten approval to launch it from the powers that be. It is has been a long time coming… and took much debate, but at long last all of the lodges in LDH American Federation have been given the OK to maintain a web presence.

I am glad that that old guard is finally realizing that being online is of grave importance if we wish to maintain relevancy and want to continue to expand in the coming years.

So I invite you guys to check out our lodge website for LDH Los Angeles:

  7. When is a man a mason? From Masonic vibes

    stjohns63:

I don’t know the origin of this, but I have copied it from Masonic Vibes Facebook page (which is a wonderful source of Masonic light and originates from the Grand Lodge of India.

    Original link
    https://m.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150948145373716&refid=9

When is a man a Mason?

“When he can look out over the rivers, the hills and the far horizon with a profound sense of his own littleness in the vast scheme of things, and yet have faith, hope and courage, which is the root of every virtue.

When he knows that down in his heart every man is as noble, as vile, as divine, as diabolic and as lonely as himself; and seeks to know, to forgive and to love his fellow man.

When he knows how to sympathize with men in their sorrows, yea even in their sins - knowing that each man fights a hard fight against many odds. When he has learned how to make friends and to keep them and above all, how to keep friends with himself. When he loves flowers, can hunt birds without a gun and feels the thrill of an old forgotten joy when he hears the laugh of a little child.

When he can be happy and high-minded amid the meaner drudgeries of life. When starcrowned trees and the glint of sunlight on flowing waters subdue him like the thought of one much loved and long dead. When no voice of distress reaches his ears in vain, and no hand seeks his aid without response.

When he finds good in every faith that helps any man to lay hold of divine things and see majestic meanings in life, whatever the name of that faith may be. When he can look into a wayside puddle and sees something beyond mud, and into the face of the most forlorn fellow mortal and see something beyond sin. When he knows how to pray, how to love, how to hope. When he has kept faith with himself, with his God; in his hand a sword for evil, in his heart a bit of a song; glad to live, but not afraid to die!

Such a man has found the only secret of Freemasonry, and the one which it is trying to give to all the world.”

  11. Bohemia is Dead

    sprigofacacia:

Now that’s a catchy phrase. All the under-culture (and over-culture) will surely love it. Please, interpret the previous statement freely. A Brother, and glorious wordsmith, dropped it on me. Whether or not it is his, I know not. But, it perplexed me. What does it mean? Rather, what does it mean to me? Here is the latter:

As an historian by education I know when to demit and say; I don’t know. I know nothing of Bohemianism. So, I poked around a few sources and got a general consensus. The point that I took from it, and want to communicate, doesn’t require you to be an expert; all you need is the basic idea. Bohemianists were traveling artists, writers, poets, et ceterists. They dedicated their lives to art. Go ahead, romanticize the idea, I am.

Brothers, we are searching for that which was lost. Sprinkled into our degree work we find Gnosticism, Alchemy, Christianity, Sufism, Judaism, Islam, Qabalah, Hermeticism, insert your archetype and ism here and you get the idea. We’re charged to continue the search and this charge benefits us so. You must: read, write, think, go, do, begrow, and transcend to achieve this goal. Our grips and passes are mere formalities compared to the real revelations within our degrees. Don’t just be a Freemason; be a Freemason. We are only as good as we aspire to be; don’t let Bohemia die.
